GOING NUTS
for softball

This month the school celebrated the yearly softball tournament called N.U.T.S (Niamey Universal Tournament of Softball) that is held between schools & embassies in Niger and Burkina Faso. Kids here don’t have many opportunities
to play team sports, so this softball tournament gives both kids and adults an opportunity to show skill and sportsmanship. It is a weekend event with lots of softball, hotdogs, hamburgers, American sodas, and this year there was even some cotton candy!

The boy’s school had 4 different teams this year—one was competitive and 3 were just “for fun”! The competitive
team won in their category, and the “for fun” teams had lots of fun but did not come home with a trophy.

Leading up to the weekend softball tournament was Spirit Week—the Sahel kids had several dress up days; hippie, fantasy/fairy tale, time period & sport jersey.
They ended the week with a big pep rally. All the kids, from the youngest to the oldest had fun showing their Sahel team spirit !
