Quake Memories of:

Kathy Engel

Regarding the earthquake 25 years ago, I was at a Bible Study at what is now Cedar Grove Community Church in Livermore. Just before the quake, the lecturer of the day, Dorothy Horner, our Teaching Leader, had prayed for "God to move the ladies today." (TRUE story! Dorothy's husband, Lee, was City Manager at the time.) When the earth started shaking, my friend and I got underneath a pew. Never did we dream that Livermore was the epicenter of the quake. When I picked up my daughter Sharolyn from child care in another building, she informed me that "They had an earthquake IN THEIR CLASS that day." (As if I didn't have one in my class!)
