Quake Memories of:

Lester Knott

I was on the 9th tee at the Springtown golf course at 11 a.m. Jan. 24th, 1980. My ball was teed up and it fell off the tee. I thought I was having a dizzy spell, but others in my foursome all said, "It's an earthquake!"
When we reached the clubhouse there was water all over that had slopped out of the swimming pool and lake (duck pond).
After putting my clubs in the car I drove to the home of my retired Lutheran minister to see if they were OK as the Rev. Otto Scheck and his wife were quite elderly. There were beautiful dishes all over the floor. These were special ones that she had brought back from Quatemala. We quickly put them into a garbage can so she would not have to see them all broken. Then I went into the garage and the water heater was lying on the floor. I turned the water off and helped clean up the mess.
We had no damage at our home on Dartmouth Way in Livermore.
